Job description
We are looking for an energetic, customer-service focused Legal Assistant with experience to join our team in Taft’s Indianapolis office.

Pay will be based on experience.

As a Legal Assistant you will serve clients by providing administrative support to attorneys and support our Intellectual Property group. Ideally you should have 2+ years of experience working with patents.

As an associate of Taft you will be expected to operate under a “Client First” philosophy—in all things, we seek to provide exceptional services to our clients.
Education requirements
• Higher education or coursework related to the legal industry preferred.
Experience requirements
• 2+ years of experience with trademarks and Intellectual Property legal work.
Qualifications
• Must exhibit outstanding client service orientation in greeting guests, scheduling meetings, and conducting telephone conferences.
• Must display strong attention to detail.
• Proficient command of the English language and standard grammar rules.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
Responsibilities
• Proactively support attorneys.
• Respond to requests with a sense of urgency and effectively prioritize work.
• Prepare and review letters and memoranda according to our standards, using word processing and document management systems.
• Proactively monitor deadlines.
• Process requests for payment and reimbursements.
• Create, maintain, and retire files in accordance with Taft’s Information Governance Policy.
• Assist in managing client contacts, emails, and print documents, as well as processing mail.
• Clearly communicate in a concise, professional manner.
• Transcribe dictation.
• File documents with the courts electronically.
• Draft pleadings (i.e., appearances, summons, motions, orders).
Work hours
• Monday-Friday, 7.5 hours/day.
